and Drama
Art and Drama are important dimensions of the curriculum to build confidence and develop self-expression.
At Medbury all years receive art tuition. Boys thoroughly enjoy art and are proud of their work, much of which is displayed around the School. Years 1 and 2 enjoy regular art activities with their class teacher. From Year 3 onwards, boys receive dedicated art tuition each week from the School's two specialist art teachers. Boys are encouraged to experiment with two and three dimensional art forms, using a variety of mediums and materials. Boys receive instruction in drawing and painting, clay modeling and sculpture, print making, fabric and fibre, collage and design and graphics.
Every Year 5 to Year 8 boy is involved in a
drama production of some sort each year. Every second
year a major musical production is staged by all of
the Year 7 and Year 8 boys. Recent productions include “Pirates of Penzance” and “Peter Pan”. Junior and Middle school productions also involve all boys, and are a delight.
Medbury also partipates in community productions. Recently, a number of Medbury boys were cast in key roles in the Christchurch Court Theatre's stand out production of "Oliver!" ...more and in the recent Showbiz Christchurch production of Disney's musical Beauty and The Beast, a Year 5 Medbury boy played "Chip the Teacup" and delighted the audience ...more
