Junior School Team


Clare Erasmus - Year 3 Teacher

Clare has a Bachelor of Arts (majoring in Sociology and Legal Studies), Bachelor of Arts (Honours) in Sociology, Master’s Degree in Social Science and a Bachelor of Education. She has been teaching for twenty years. She began her teaching career, lecturing at the University of Kwa Zulu Natal before taking on a role at an independent school in Taipei, Taiwan. She then moved to Australia, where she studied and taught. Clare and her family then moved to New Zealand and prior to joining Medbury, she taught at The Cathedral Grammar School.


Erin Sutherland - Year 3 Teacher

Erin has been teaching for over twenty years and prior to joining the staff at Medbury, was a team leader at Clearview Primary. She holds a Bachelor of Education from the University of Canterbury and a Diploma of Teaching from the Christchurch College of Education. Erin has a passion for literacy and is trained in Reading Recovery. She enjoys music and spending time with her family.


Jane McGarry - Acting Junior School Team Leader and Year 2 Teacher

Jane has been teaching at Medbury since 2014. She has taught at Cathedral Grammar and Columba College. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and a Bachelor of Teaching from Otago University.


Georgie Gilbert - Year 2 Teacher

Georgie joined Medbury School in 2017, having completed a Graduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning through the University of Canterbury. Prior to that, she worked as an Occupational Therapist & Community Mental Health worker at Timaru Hospital, as she also holds a Bachelor's Degree in Occupational Therapy.


Karen Mahon - Year 1 Teacher

Karen has 13 years teaching experience, teaching in a range of Year levels, including Senior Management experience. She has been teaching Year 1 at Medbury School since 2014 and has an interest in transitioning boys into their early years of learning. Karen holds a Bachelor of Teaching and Learning from Canterbury University and Christchurch College of Education.


Charlotte Henderson - Year 1 Teacher and Transition To School Programme Leader

Charlotte has 12 years teaching experience and has been teaching at Medbury School since 2014. Charlotte has a Bachelor of Teaching and Learning from the University of Canterbury and a Post Graduate Diploma in Early Childhood Education. Charlotte spent 3 years as a Transition to School Teacher at a local Pre School. Since 2016, Charlotte has been running the Transition to School Programme at Medbury School. Charlotte is passionate about transitioning children into the Junior School and teaching Literacy and Numeracy. She enjoys running a fun and varied programme to encouarge boys to be excited and motivated to start school and believes a smooth transition sets children up for a successful positive start to school. 


Joanna Blakely - Junior School Teacher

Jo has a Bachelor of Education from the University of Canterbury and a Graduate Diploma of Teaching from the Christchurch College of Education. After completing her studies, she travelled to England and Australia. Jo has been teaching for 15 years. Her most recent appointment was at Haileybury College in Melbourne and joined Medbury in 2016.


Dahl Robertson - Year One Teacher

Dahl has a Bachelor of Education from Massey University, a Diploma of Early Childhood Education from the Auckland College of Education, and a Graduate Diploma of Teaching from the University of Canterbury. While having an interest in all levels of education, Dahl has extensive specialist experience in the new entrant area. She believes that a good start to school is the foundation of a child's ongoing education success. The key to enabling this is forming quality individual relationships with both pupils and parents, which she prides herself on. Her teaching practice is enhanced through an interest in different cultural perspectives, having travelled through parts of Europe, USA, and Asia in recent years. She also has an interest in the experience of international students, having had all three of her own children enrolled for school in China during a period of living there in 2012.
